We were recently contacted by Container Ministries and NPO who asked us if we would be able to fill a container of shoes to send to the needy in South Africa. It was a challenge that Viv was up for!!! The container was organised by Container Ministries and NPO and was sponsored, so SFPE had to gather as many shoes as possible in a short amount of time. An urgent request to all our shoe collectors in Sydney was sent out and on Sunday 23rd October the packing began. A total of 9821 pairs of shoes were packed into the container and are now on their way to Durban South Africa. There they will go to 152 mission partners who will distribute them to the underprivileged, the sick, the orphans and the elderly. A big thank you to all our shoe collectors and donors who helped to make this dream come to fruition!!!! A big thank you also to our amazing volunteers who worked so hard all day packing the container. We are looking forward in the future to hearing how this amazing shoe donation has helped to improve the lives of needy people in Durban and surrounds this Christmas.
Recently we were contacted by a Taiwanese backpacker, Jocelyn, who had been travelling around Australia. Jocelyn’s journey had come to an end and she wanted to lighten her load before travelling home. We were able to put Jocelyn in touch with a homeless centre where she donated her running shoes, spare clothes and a blanket. What generosity from one young girl from Taiwan! What if all backpackers travelling around Australia donated their used shoes and clothing to the people in need before they left! Congratulations Jocelyn on making a difference before leaving our shores.
The annual Homeless Connect event was held at the Sydney Town Hall in July. SFPE took along 400 pairs of shoes which were handed out in less that an hour! Our stall is always the first point of call for homeless men and women and as usual we were flat out helping as many people as possible. It is a great event held each year where the community comes together to help those most in need during winter in Sydney.
The Renegade Runners are at it again! Every Wednesday, in the Sydney CBD, we take those who are sleeping rough or doing it tough for a walk. Each with a 'new' pair of sports shoes and socks we enjoy the camaraderie that a 'team' has to offer. Our goal is the Sydney City2Surf, the 14km event held every August. Changing lives one pair of shoes at a time.
20’ Container to South Africa Compass Waste Services in Durban is sponsoring a 20 foot container of shoes from Sydney to South Africa. The shoes will be distributed by Container Ministry of Grace Family Church in Umhlanga to 150 mission partners all over KwaZulu Natal, Zululand and Southern Mozambique. The shoes will be a mixture of new and used school shoes, running shoes, smart and casual shoes plus many more for all age groups. In Sydney the mammoth shoe collection is underway with approximately 7,000 pairs ready to be packed for loading. With very generous supporters we have been donated boxes from Storage King, shoes from all our local shoe collectors and we have volunteers who will be helping us with the sorting and packing. What an adventure this will be.
Running shoes for the Melbourne Street Soccer Program Shoes for Planet Earth in association with The Melbourne Big Issue Street Soccer Program will be collecting sports shoes to go to the Melbourne homeless. The shoes will be from some of the Salomon Trail Run Series events which are organised by Rapid Ascent www.rapidascent.com.au We are very happy to be able to facilitate this partnership and are hoping that the shoes will be a welcome addition now that winter has set in. A big thanks to all involved.
Shoes to Cebu in the Philippines Not only does running bring us together it also facilitates great things. We had a request to give running shoes to a project in Cebu City (The Philippines) for two groups of children where running activities and programs were being implemented. The first group is composed of sexually abused girls (6-18 years old) who are victims of incest and are housed in the Cebu Hope Center. The second group is kids with cancer (6-18 years old) who are supported by the Kythe Foundation for psycho-social care. Running was to form part of the therapy for all of these children. We gave them 56 pairs of shoes and here is the reward!
Vienna Shoe Collection Veronica Lees organised this shoe drive and she tells us: We had a shoe drive within our company over one week and took athletic shoes for Men, Women and Children. We filled 4 big boxes and collected about 50-60 pairs of shoes. We delivered the mens and womens athletic shoes to a homeless shelter called the Gruft (The Crypt) http://www.gruft.at/ The rest of the shoes we donated to the Charity Caritas who cover a large range of people in need, from homeless, refugees and the elderly. In this case they will be distributed among their women and childrens shelters around Vienna. https://www.caritas.at/ We are still getting emails from people who forgot and so I have another box set up to keep collecting until our next official drive in the fall! It was such a joy and you guys were really my inspiration to start really putting a bigger effort towards giving back. Thank you Veronica for spreading the love!
A Golden Opportunity J We are introducing a new initiative! In the case of a once-off Shoe Drive organised by a CORPORATION, SCHOOL and ORGANISATION, we require a GOLD COIN DONATION with each pair of shoes collected. The organising body in each case will be able to claim a tax-deductible donation on anything over AUS$2. The benefits to our charity are: The money collected will help us to continue the good work we do. It will reduce the number of poor quality shoes being donated. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
